WQA Professional Certification Exams Offered During OWQA Event

Pre-registration, pre-qualification required

Water treatment pros who are ready to take their certification exams can do so in person during the Ohio WQA Fall Training Event.

Exam time and date: 2:15 p.m. ET Oct. 4

Location: Quest Conference Center in Westerville, OH.

Required hardware: WiFi-enabled laptop computer. Tablets cannot be used for the exam.

Registration deadlines:
1. August 14, 2023 – Register for pre-requisites (see below).
2. September 11, 2023 – Register for exam (pre-requisites and any required coursework must be completed).
3. September 20, 2023 – Complete the secure browser check on the laptop you will be using for the exam (instructions will be provided).

To register for the pre-requisites, find the certification title of interest below, review the experiential and coursework requirements, and click the appropriate link to register. Payments can be made online. Please make sure to log into wqa.org to receive pricing for your membership level.

Examinees are allowed up to three hours to complete the exam.

WQA is offering a rebate toward the cost of the pre-requisites and exam fees for Core/Premier members. Please see the Rebate page  for details and forms. Rebate forms must be received within 30 days following notification of a passing score.

Cancellation and Retake Policies

Refunds:

Full refunds for the exam fee are made if the examinee cancels the exam registration by the cancellation deadline, which is September 27, 2023. NO REFUNDS are given if cancellation is received AFTER the cancellation deadline. NO REFUNDS are given for “No Shows” who don’t appear for preregistered exams.

Retaking the exam:

Exams with less than a passing score may be retaken no less than 30 days following notification of the exam results. The candidate must submit the retake request form (see below) and pay the full exam fee as well as any fees for re-accessing study materials.

Certified Water Specialist (CWS)

For professionals selling and configuring treatment equipment and multistage treatment trains for residential problem water applications.

Candidates with 2+ years of experience specifying problem water treatment for B2C applications can earn the certification by:

  • Passing module tests for Assessing Water Quality & Application and Sizing of POU/POE Treatment for Aesthetic Contaminants
  • Completing an online ethics course
  • Passing the Certified Water Specialist exam

Certified Treatment Designer (CTD)

Designed for those in business-to-business sales and support, technical sales, technical support, R&D engineers, public health professionals or others involved in troubleshooting and maintenance of POU/POE water treatment technologies and equipment.

Candidates with 3+ years B2B experience in technical sales/technical support of POU/POE equipment & applications can earn the certification by:

  • Completing an online ethics course
  • Passing the Certified Treatment Designer exam

Certified Installer (CI)

For professionals placing POE and POU water treatment in residences. Focuses on safe installation, code compliance, and general water treatment equipment knowledge.

Candidates with 2+ years of experience installing POU/POE water treatment equipment can earn the certification by:

  • Completing a two-hour review session and an online ethics course
  • Passing the Certified Installer exam

Master Water Specialist (MWS)

Reflects broad experience in treatment design for health-related contaminants and problem water applications.

Eligibility for this certification requires:

  • A current CWS certification
  • Five years’ experience in problem water treatment in the B2C market
  • Completion of the Advanced Design module
  • Passing the Master Water Specialist exam
