History

The Water Quality Association was created in 1974 from the merger of two trade associations that had been formed in the 1940s, the Water Conditioning Association International (representing water treatment equipment dealers) and the Water Conditioning Foundation (representing water treatment equipment manufacturers and suppliers).

Programs and Services

WQA serves as an educator of water treatment professionals, a certifier of water treatment products, a public information resource, and the voice of the water quality improvement industry.

Through the Water Quality Research Foundation (WQRF), a separate and independent scientific research organization aligned with WQA, significant resources are being dedicated to conducting independent academic and professional research and related outreach undertakings to advance the knowledge and science of high-quality, sustainable water. WQRF has funded numerous research studies which have generated essential information on water quality for industry, policymakers, regulators, and the general public.

Through its Gold Seal Product Certification Program and its Sustainability Certification Program, WQA offers product certification and sustainability programs to help manufacturers ensure their devices conform to national consensus safety, performance and sustainability standards. We provide manufacturers with independent testing and certification to various standards for a variety of drinking water treatment products, which include rigorous laboratory tests, literature review, and materials assessment.

We also provide education for professionals. Dedicated to upholding high standards of performance that make sure consumers have confidence in the people providing and servicing the treatment products and solutions, WQA also continuously develops, maintains and improves its Professional Certification Program, a one of a kind in the United States. As a result, thousands of certified professionals work every day in homes and businesses throughout the nation.

We are proudly dedicated to helping businesspeople serve the public with integrity, quality, and professionalism in everything we do.
