Hidden Chemistry: Unmasking Contaminants with Smarter Water Analysis (up to .25 CPD)

Share

Contaminants rarely reveal themselves in their simplest form. Iron may exist as dissolved ions, particles, or complexes; lead can hide in unexpected chemistry; arsenic shifts between species with very different risks. Manganese brings additional challenges that complicate both detection and treatment.

Presenter Joshua Mertz, PhD, of LaMotte Company will take a chemist’s perspective to “unmask” these hidden forms of key inorganic contaminants. We will explore how manganese, iron, lead, and arsenic appear in water, how their chemistry affects accurate measurement, and why these differences matter when selecting treatment technologies. Attendees will also learn about common analytical tools and techniques that bring clarity to complex water chemistry.

By uncovering the hidden chemistry of contaminants, water professionals will leave with a clearer framework for interpreting water quality data, choosing treatment strategies with confidence, and ultimately delivering smarter, more effective solutions.
