David Cwiertny, PhD, Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Iowa, facilitates this webinar, which looks at lead in drinking water, surveying work conducted by the Center for Health Effects of Environmental Contamination (CHEEC) and the Get the Lead Out Iowa program at the University of Iowa. The presentation focuses on risks to schools and childcare centers posed by lead in drinking water. Recent revisions to the Lead and Copper Rule will mandate testing in schools and childcare centers starting in 2024. CHEEC shares results from its testing in Iowa schools to explore the extent of lead contamination in drinking water and its discussions with school administrators about their perceptions on risks from lead in drinking water and their preferred approaches, including point-of-use devices, to addressing any contamination revealed during testing.
